Eagle Forward Resume Writing Program
Eagle Forward is a resume writing program for veterans who need assistance with editing, developing, or creating a resume from scratch. Each veteran goes through the 4-week program and at its conclusion has a comprehensive understanding of the resume writing process, increased confidence, a polished resume, interviewing tips, mock interview practice, and a minimum of 10 pending job applications. Following the completion of the writing program, the volunteer mentor assigned to each veteran checks in on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to see how the career search process is going and to continue helping. What is key in the career search process is having encouragement every single day and knowing there is a strong team behind you. The beauty of the program is that it can take place in any part of the country. Eagle Forward is not just a program, it is a movement. Alumni of the program have the opportunity to participate as mentors for current veterans

History Behind the Eagle Forward Program - a note from our program founder and director
Tuesday October 1st 2013 was the official launch date of Eagle Forward, the sister program to At Your Side! The mission of Eagle Forward is to assist veterans with editing, developing, or creating a résumé from scratch. How did this idea come about? I've been helping soldiers in the Memphis, TN AW2 for the past 3 1/2 years with their resumes. After helping a soldier with his résumé in a remote part of Mississippi this year, I decided I wanted to take the résumé writing program to wherever it is needed, especially the forgotten areas of the country where veterans are struggling the most. Please spread the word! A special thank you to COL Gene Mechling for always encouraging me to "go run with that idea kiddo!"
History behind the name Eagle Forward: why is the program named Eagle Forward? I had been thinking of a name for quite awhile, but nothing seemed to fit. I wanted to somehow link the program name to its sister program, At Your Side, which got its start at Ft. Campbell. I thought it would be neat to use the word Eagle since the eagle otherwise known as "Old Abe" is the mascot of the 101st Airborne. Anyway, I still could not think of a name for the program or how the eagle would tie in with resume writing. So one night I said a prayer and asked God to help and that very night I woke up in the middle of the night and the phrase, "eagle forward," popped into my head.
The next morning I did some research and discovered that during the Korean War the 24th Infantry Regiment published a daily newspaper for the soldiers called Eagle Forward, and no matter how bad things got they printed the newspaper. During the winter months the ink continually froze before printing so the guys had to heat the frozen ink on the stove to melt it. I also wanted a name for the program that would symbolize not giving up!!!!
Another interesting fact to mention is that I picked October 1st as the official launch date for the Eagle Forward Program and the next day found out that October 1st, 1951 was the last date the Eagle Forward newspaper was published during the Korean War.
The efforts behind the Eagle Forward resume program are dedicated to the West Point Class of 1949 and to my late grandfather COL Harry Maihafer USMA '49 who was wounded in the Korean War. The most important thing I learned from my grandfather in the 20 grand years I spent with him is to be hungry for adventure, but hungrier for serving others.
